Insight Australia

Repeatedly ranked as one of the world’s most liveable cities, multi-cultural Melbourne has much to offer: history and heritage, shopping and sport, fabulous food and fun roof top bars, but the Victorian capital is also the gateway to so much more, and much of which can be enjoyed as a day trip from the city.

Whether you’re into walks, wildlife or wine; scenic drives, spas or sport; geology or culinary, we have your special interest covered in Melbourne and Victoria.

  • See little penguins march up the beach at sunset on Phillip Island. During your visit here you can also see koalas, kangaroos, seals and birds, just ask us how.

  • Walk among giant tree ferns to spectacular waterfalls and paddle a canoe to spot the elusive platypus in the Great Otway National Park (pair this perfectly with a visit to the Great Ocean Road).
  • Visit award-winning wineries and delicious farm gates in the Mornington Peninsula. With beautiful beaches, thermal spas, galleries and golf courses, this is where Melbourne comes to play!
  • Hike in the gorgeous Grampians to learn ancient indigenous legends told through Aboriginal rock art dating back more than 20,000 years!
  • Taste your way around Melbourne’s lively Queen Victoria Markets and dine your away around some of the country’s best restaurants.
  • Step back in time to uncover Australia’s goldrush history in the townships of Bendigo and Ballarat
  • Enjoy mineral waters and fabulous regional foods in Daylesford Spa country.
Hidden Gems
  • The You Yangs. Tour here (just over an hour from Melbourne) with Insight Australia to become a koala researcher for a day. You are likely to see koalas in the wild, kangaroos roaming freely and a wide variety of native birds in their natural habitats.
  • Wilsons Promontory. The southern-most tip of the Australian mainland offers wonderful walks and wilderness cruises.
  • The Mighty Murray region. The High Country and riverlands that border Victoria with South Australia and New South Wales offer dark skies for star gazing and opportunities to tour outback ‘moonscapes’.

Melbourne is renowned for having four seasons in one day, so layer up and be prepared before heading out to explore the city’s lively laneways, heritage arcades and tasty multi-cultural precincts. Melbourne’s love of good food is rivalled only by their love of great sport: catch a game of Aussie Rules Football or cricket at the MCG to live the local life - or plan your stay to see the Formula 1 Grand Prix Motor Racing, Melbourne Cup horse race or the Australian Open grand slam tennis.
